~ My “Should be” Idea ~

In our last meeting (before Lebaran), our conductor in Britzone Class (I forget his name, sorry for that ;) ) chose “Self Identity” as our discussion theme.

I came at 11.15..Hm..a bit late, but still got brief introduction about the theme. firstly The conductor told the story of Prophet Yusuf (May Peace be upon Him) and the legend of Narcissus as the gate to bridge the discussion. After giving introduction, the conductor asked the participants to answer a question “Who am I?. As ussual, we were divided into groups, to found the answer and presented before other groups.

Since the beginning I thought that the theme was rather ambiguous, as talking about self Identity will come to the wide ranges of point of views. It can be seen from many sides, such as psychological, philosophical, sociological, or spiritual side.

So do with the question, the answer will depend on the situation when the question needing the answer. For example, when we walk in interview, the Interviewer frequently has us to answer the same questions “who are you? “ even though the redactions are may varied. We usually will start the answer by telling our name, our educational background, our hobby, our previous job and so on. Then, when you are sitting in your philosophical, or psychological class when your lecturer ask you to answer the same question, I bet that you will answer the question base on the pile of theories as your reference before going straight forward to your answer, and the answers of those two situation will completely different.

Most of us in the class answered the above question by mentioning our personal traits, like characters, hobbies, and so on

In the last session before making some reviews the conductor conveyed the reason why he chose the theme. He wanted to remind us to our existence in this world that is not exist by ourselves but because of a thing or something creates us, that is our God, Allah SWT. He analogized the identity with the possession, “suppose you have a bag, than the bag will refer to yours, because the bag is yours. We can apply the same analogy with us, if we say ‘I or me” it should be refer to “Who has me, or who creates me”.

The conclusion actually reminded me to the last lesson given by my mentor Ust Hasan in my TS Training. He also said that the right answer of the question “Who am I? “ is that we are nothing but God’s Creature and servant.

In this discussion, I once thought that way, but because I was confused by the range of discussion, so I just followed others’ ideas, and had the same answer, but I felt so regretful after that, because I couldn’t stand for my ‘should be’ Idea.
